Facebook To Launch Music Service With Spotify - Parmy Olson - Disruptors - Forbes

Facebook To Launch Music Service With Spotify - Parmy Olson - Disruptors - Forbes: "Facebook has partnered with Spotify on a music-streaming service that could be launched in as little as two weeks, sources close to the deal have told Forbes.

The integrated service is currently going through testing, but when launched, Facebook users will see a Spotify icon appear on the left side of their newsfeed, along with the usual icons for photos and events.

Clicking on the Spotify icon will install the service on their desktop in the background, and also allow users play from Spotify’s library of millions of songs through Facebook. The service will include a function that lets Facebook users listen to music simultaneously with their friends over the social network, one of the sources said."

Official Google Reader Blog: And now for something completely different

I've been trying out this Google Reader Player. It's OK but I wouldn't forsee me using it very much.

Official Google Reader Blog: And now for something completely different: "

You might be wondering where we find all the awesome stuff in Reader Play. It uses the same technology as the Recommended Items feed in Reader to identify and aggregate the most interesting items on the web. If you sign in, Reader Play will also be personalized with items that people you’re following have shared in Google Reader, and items similar to ones you’ve previously liked, starred, or shared.

Since Reader Play is an experiment, it’s launching in Google Labs for now. To be clear, Reader Play isn't intended to replace Google Reader: both Google Reader and Reader Play are about finding and reading interesting stuff online. In essense, Reader Play is a different view of Reader. It's designed to be a fun and easy way to browse interesting items, while Reader is a highly customizable way to organize your feeds, keep track of what you've read, and much more. In Reader, you can switch to this view by clicking 'View in Reader Play' from the feed settings menu.

Try Reader Play today and let us know what you think. Send us feedback in our forum or on Twitter, and check out our help article for more info.

Twitter enters the UK Top 100 sites

The microblogging website Twitter seems to have taken off in terms of traffic over the past few months. Being a relative newcomer myself to Twitter, I'm still exploring the possibilities and the countless third-party applications that are associated with it. When I read that Stephen Fry was a user (I think they are called "tweeters") and third in the rankings as most "followed" (according to this Techcrunch post is now second in popularity to the president of the United States, Obama) I decided to give it a try, being a fan of Mr Fry. I have to admit the more I learn about it the more engrossed I have become. For instance, in terms of breaking news, there seems to be a wealth of people on the spot "tweeting" about it e.g. the Hudson river plane landing. Today, I found that I could also follow the Ireland v Italy rugby match with updates about every minute on the progress of the game.
Below is a video clip from the Techcrunch article, of Stephen Fry on the Jonathan Ross TV show, who is also a tweeter known as "@wossy", talking about Twitter.

Speedtest.net

Test your broadband speed.

Sadly, living just over one mile from the Newton Abbot exchange in Devon, this is the best speed that BT Internet can provide me with until they decide to invest some of there profits in upgrading the lines. This means I, along with the many thousands of other rural area dwellers are unable to take advantage some of the latest multimedia technology such as "BT Vision", which would ultimately increase their profits. I would say this shows a distinct lack of "vision" from BT !

Dizzler

Dizzler is a right 'bobby dazzler'. Sorry about that, giving away my north of England roots there. It's a media player which can search the web for streaming music, video, radio stations and games. Registering with Dizzler allows you to customise the player and create you own playlists of favourite media. You can either access it online or download it as a desktop application, with further options to embed it on Myspace, websites or as you can see below your blog.
Highly recommended for endless hours of entertainment.
